Approval
Any applicant who has successfully completed your Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties (VPDSD) (CMTIVA-747) course will satisfy:
- The VPDSD training requirements of 46 CFR 12.625(a)(1); AND
- The VPDSD standards of competence required by STCW Code Section A-VI/6 paragraph 6 and Table A-VI/6-2, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 21-14(CH-1).
Prerequisites:
It is assumed that those attending this course will be serving seafarers (or other vessel personnel) and are likely to be assigned specific security duties in connection with the Vessel Security Plan. Students must also be able to read, write, and speak the English language as wells as perform basic math functions. Students must meet the citizenship requirements listed in 46 CFR 10.221.
Enrollment:
Upon enrollment, you will have access to the online portion of the course. You can access the course my selecting “My Account” and navigating to the online courses you have purchased. Once you begin the course, you must spend a minimum of 7.5 hours on this portion before the online quiz will be available. You must pass the online quiz before you will be eligible to “finish” the course. Once you have completed the course hours, prepared for the examination and scheduled your exam and assessments, select the finish button on the online portion of the course. (You will no longer have access to course material once you select “Finish:)
When you register for a course at CMTI Online, you are responsible for the costs associated with registering for the course and transportation to the school for the written examination. If the enrollment process is completed and payment is processed, a refund will not be given. Please contact CMTI if you have ANY questions prior to enrollment in an online course.
Examinations:
The written examination is administered at Chesapeake Marine Training Institute. The examination is similar in format and content to the examinations given at the US Coast Guard Regional Examination Centers (RECs) and are accepted by the U.S. Coast Guard in lieu of their exams. You must call 804-642-0123 or email information@chesapeakemarineinst.com to schedule attendance for the in-person portion which includes a written examination and/or practical assessments. You can schedule your in-person portion when you purchase the course. However, you must successfully complete the online portion prior to attending any in-person requirements.
You have 90 days from the date of enrollment to take your written examination. This must be done in person at CMTI.
