Prerequisites:
This course is principally intended for candidates for certification as Officer In Charge of a Navigational Watch. Those wishing to enter this course should be following an approved program of shipboard training. In most cases, the students for each course will normally have backgrounds that meet or exceed the ideal entry standard requirements stated above. Students must also be able to read, write, and speak the English language as wells as perform basic math functions. Students must meet the citizenship requirements listed in 46 CFR 10.221.
Course Details:
Any student successfully completing this course will satisfy the Cargo Handling and Stowage training requirements of 46 CFR to include:
- The Cargo Handling and Stowage training requirements of 46 CFR 11.309(a)(4)(x) for an STCW endorsement as Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch on vessels of 500 or more gross tonnage (ITC); AND,
- The following practical assessments performed during this course have been determined to be equivalent of National Assessment Guidelines Tasks, as documented in NVIC 12-14 (CH-4) Guidelines of Qualifications for Officer in Charge Of a Navigational Watch on Vessles of 500 GT or More: 10.1, 10.2, 10.3.A, 11.1, 11.2, 11.3, 11.4.A, 11.5, 11.6, 11.7; AND
- The following TASKS as documented in NVIC 02-18: 10.1.A, 10.2.A, 10.3.A, 11.1.A, 11.2.A, 11.3.A, 11.4.A, 11.5.A, 11.6.A; AND,
- The following TASKs as documented in NVIC 03-18: 11.1.A, 11.2.A, 11.4.A, 11.4.B, 11.5.A, 11.5.B, and 11.5.D.
Examinations:
70% passing score is required on the written examination.
