Victorian police have charged a man after a 21-year-old woman was found injured and semi-conscious in a central Melbourne train station on Monday.

The woman was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital after being found injured and semi-conscious by police at the busy station, located in the intersection of Park Street and Little Collins Street, just before 5:30pm.
Detective Sergeant Pat Murphy said the woman’s injuries were significant and were being treated by medics.
“At this stage, she’s alive and she’s now in a stable condition. She’s talking, she’s conscious,” he said.
“We think she may have fallen between a set of gates but those are undergoing investigation.”
The man has been charged with one count of unlawful assault causing injury, but is yet to be charged by police for allegedly hitting the woman.

“We’re still looking for those people who we believe may have seen what occurred,” Sergeant Murphy said.
“We believe there’s one or two males that were involved in this, a group of males.
“We believe one was a little bit more aggressive to the victim than the other who may have assisted him.”
Police alleged there was no evidence of a sexual nature and the woman was not known to the man.
Sergeant Murphy said police would be undertaking a thorough investigation to identify those involved.
