Course Details:

This course is approved, as a Florida State College at Jacksonville course, by the United States Coast Guard and the United States Maritime Administration (MARAD). This course is conducted at Chesapeake Marine Training Institute, Inc., under contract with Florida State College at Jacksonville. This course aims to provide knowledge to those who may be designated to perform the duties and responsibilities of a Vessel Security Officer (VSO), a Company Security Officer (CSO), or a Facility Security Officer (FSO) as defined in 33 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Chapter 1, Subchapter H, and the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MSTA) of 2002, and in particular the duties and responsibilities with respect to the security of the vessel or facility, for implementing and maintaining a Vessel Security Plan (VSP) or a Facility Security Plan (FSP), and for liaising with the Vessel Security Officer (VSO), Company Security Officer (CSO), and Facility Security Officer (FSO).

Examination:

A student's performance will be evaluated by requiring all students to attend all lessons, to participate and demonstrate competency in two Florida State College at Jacksonville's (FSCJ's) practical demonstrations, and to satisfactorily receive a passing score on FSCJ's final written examination for MS-240 (Vessel Security Officer/ Company Security Officer/ Facility Security Officer) course.
