Course Details:

This program was developed by Hudson Trident Corporation and is being presented through the auspices of Offshore Marine Services Organization (OMSA).  The Hudson Trident training program for SSO/VSO and CSO/FSO has been certified by DNV Seaskill® to be compliant with the ISPS Code.

 

33 CFR §104.215 requires that the VSO/SSO have general knowledge, thorough training or equivalent job experience in the following:

  1. All of the items listed in the SA course and:
  2. Security administration and organization of the company's vessel(s);
  3. Vessel, facility, and port operations relevant to that industry;
  4. Vessel and facility security measures, including the meaning and the consequential requirements of different Maritime Security (MARSEC) Levels;
  5. Emergency preparedness and response and contingency planning;
  6. Security equipment and systems and their operational limitations;
  7. Methods of conducting audits, inspection and control and monitoring techniques;
  8. Techniques for security training and education, including security measures and procedures;
  9. Relevant international conventions, codes, and recommendations;
  10. Relevant government legislation and regulations;
  11. Responsibilities and functions of other security organizations;
  12. Methodology of Vessel Security Assessment;
  13. Methods of vessel security surveys and inspections;
  14. Instruction techniques for security training and education including security measures and procedures;
  15. Handling sensitive security information and security related communications;
  16. Knowledge of current security threats and patterns;
  17. recognition and detection of dangerous substances and devices
  18. Recognition of characteristics and behavioral patterns of persons who are likely to threaten security;
  19. Techniques used to circumvent security measures;
  20. Methods of physical screening and non intrusive inspections;
  21. Security drills and exercises;
  22. Vessel layout;
  23. The Vessel Security Plan (VSP) and related procedures, including scenario based response training;
  24. Crowd management and control techniques;
  25. Operations of security equipment and systems, and;
  26. Testing and calibration of security equipment and systems, and their maintenance while at sea.
