This course is intended to meet the requirements
stated in 46 CFR 28.270(c) for individuals conducting drills and
instruction aboard commercial fishing vessels after September 1,
1994.

On the "Miss B"
Persons successfully completing this course will be better
prepared to handle an emergency effectively, assist others, and
use available equipment appropriately. Students will also obtain
some of the skills that will enable them to prevent emergency
situations from occurring. Participants will be prepared to
share this knowledge and these skills through the implementation
of monthly drills aboard their own vessels.
Course Topics:
- Preparation for the emergency
- Use and maintenance of immersion suits and other PFDs
- Launching and recovery of survival craft
- Radio distress communications and visual distress signals
- Use and maintenance of EPIRBS
- Firefighting in different locations onboard the vessel
- Minimizing the effects of flooding
- Recovering an individual from the water
- Use, testing and maintenance of the general alarm and
other alarms
- Notification procedures for inoperative alarm and fire
detection systems
- Abandon ship preparations and procedures
- Orientations, station bills and drill
