Course Details:

This course provides classroom training in basic assistance towing techniques, terminology, and safety to the meet training requirements for issuance of a Commercial Assistance Towing Endorsement to a US Coast Guard License. The course satisfies the requirements of 46 CFR 10.301 – 303 and any student successfully completing the course will satisfy the examination requirements of 46 CFR 10.482(b) for endorsement for Commercial Assistance Towing for Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels through Master 200 GRT upon Great Lakes, Inland and/or Near Coastal waters.

The course covers the following topics:

Towing terminology

• Towing gear – uses and limitations
• Towing terms

Towing Procedures

• Selection of proper towing gear and method of tow
• Conducting the tow
• Safety concerns and cautions
• Towing emergencies

Rules of the Road concerning towing vessels

Examination:

The student will be administered a 15 question multiple-choice examination with a minimum score of 70% required.
